A few posts back I discussed how to start designing your goals, and promised the next step to be sharing with you how to take action. Here it is:
So you have designed your short term and long term goals, laid them out into a specific format, to be accomplished within a specific time frame.
What is the next step?
Action, of course. What action do you need to take in order to achieve these goals?
This is the point where so many people get side tracked. This is where you need to be lazer focused and 100% committed to staying on track if success is what is in your goal planning and long term plan.
If you have a clear vision of what it is you desire, within a designated and realistic time frame, then taking the necessary action is the only step you need to be considering at this point.
You may feel as though there is a 50 lb. weight holding your arm to the desk, that will not allow you to pick up the phone. Or, you may feel there are a million excuses of why you can not achieve that first task today. If this is the case, take a moment and ask yourself:
- WHY?
- What is holding you back from taking the action?
- What is your fear?
- What is the very worst thing that can happen if you were to take the action?
- Do I have a clear vision of how to take the action, what the action is?
If you are not sure about these answers, then go back to goal setting, and focus on a more specific vision of your short term goals and how they affect your long term goals.
Once you determine the answers to these questions with complete honesty, stop and ask yourself:
- Do I have all the necessary information to move forward, take the action, and follow through?
Remain focused on taking the action, without allowing any distractions, until you have completed what you set forth to accomplish. If you become stumped, as to the next step, sit back, take a deep breath, focus, and then do some brainstorming to gain clarity as the your priorities.
One step at a time, you will see how you accomplish what you set forth to do, celebrate in the moment of completion, then get back on track for the next step. Remember you are already a success, as you are taking the action and much farther ahead than you were previously.
As always taking the action steps is the essential progress you continually need to be assessing, analyzing, and converting to bring you the success you desire. Wendy,
I love this. Taking action is what it’s all about! Forget what others may think, we are not working towards our goals & dreams to gain approval, we are focused on them because it’s what we want!
Take care,
Becca

Excellent post Wendy.
All the knowledge in the world is useless if there is no action attatched to it.
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you Justin, as I know you for being a go-getter I take that as a real compliment!
Great post! A tactic I’ve also found useful in motivating me to take action on my goals is to ask myself what pain or distress I’m experiencing as a result of NOT achieving the goal. I also ask about the benefits I will experience once I’ve achieved the goal. Exploring these questions help me maintain momentum.

Thanks Jackie,
Good points, we have intuition and an emotional guidance system for the sole reason of being able to support us in the right direction. The more we are “in tune” with this system the more we stay on track with our purpose in life.
